Down on the farm

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 29/09/2016 by Andrew03/05/2022

Had a rare trip down to the farm today. The rice for the most part is doing OK.

We also have 3 fish ponds stocked with various type of fish. One of the Ponds contain Pacu (Blah Jaramet in Thai)  a fish native to the Amazon and closely related to the piranha but can grow to 25kg.

Emptying the Lake

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 28/03/2013 by Andrew15/01/2017

Tim is currently emptying the Lake ( A way to catch all the fish). Then she is going to spray it with a fungicide to kill off any bacteria before it fills again when the rains commence in a few months time.

Palm Oil

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 03/09/2012 by Andrew03/09/2012

We have just felled most of our eucalyptus and some of our Tagu and replaced it with Palm oil plants instead. These require a lot of water and hence should do well around the Lake where they have been planted. Only time will tell.

The Grass between the Trees has been mowed and the lake has many fish in it so the Plantation is looking good at the moment.

Stolen Fish

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 16/06/2010 by Andrew16/06/2010

Went down to the lake- it is now starting to fill up.

However the following day somebody stole our fish which we had in the smaller lake behind the dam. We are now considering fencing off the entire area. Many times people are helping themselves to the vegetables around the lake and now the fish themselves. Tim suspects the owner of the land located behind ours. If we fence our land off he will then have no access to his land.

Thai Fishing

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 06/04/2010 by Andrew06/04/2010

Went to number two Plantation to try out my Bike and also to have a look at what was going on. Tim has had people in pumping all the water out of the lake so she can collect all the fish to sell – Seems like a strange way of fishing to me .

I’m sure it can’t be economical along with the cost of the fish food.

The temperatures was 42 degrees so I wasn’t out long I just swung pass number one plantation on the way hope to make sure everything was OK.

Birds & Fish

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 10/10/2009 by Andrew10/10/2009

Went to farm number 2 to clear some more weeds. However very hot today so gave up after a couple of hours. However I saw the Kingfisher again that I saw last year and I thought had probably been killed by poachers

Also saw a Large Snakehead ( Fish) in the lake – at least a couple of feet long – The largest I have seen.

Fish Farming

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 07/08/2009 by Andrew07/08/2009

Have bought some more Fish ( Telapia and Cat fish). Have also built 2  new enclosures for the small fry before they can be released into the lake where there are already some indigenous fish that would eat the small fish.

Small Enclosure alongside the lakeside house .

Larger enclsure in an inlet of the lake being finished of by Tim and our workman Bao.
