Down on the farm

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 29/09/2016 by Andrew03/05/2022

Had a rare trip down to the farm today. The rice for the most part is doing OK.

We also have 3 fish ponds stocked with various type of fish. One of the Ponds contain Pacu (Blah Jaramet in Thai)  a fish native to the Amazon and closely related to the piranha but can grow to 25kg.

Rice Sowing

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 26/05/2016 by Andrew01/05/2022

Its that time of year again & everybody is busy sowing the rice again. It won’t belong before the countryside turns green again instead of a dusty brown.

Rice Planting

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 26/04/2014 by Andrew08/09/2016

We have just sowed this years rice crop in anticipation of the rainy season. This year we bought an automatic seed planter which attaches to a Rot Tai Na or conventional tractor.

The land has also been ploughed & new paddy fields created.

In addition a new pond for irregation has been excavated & a new resort built.

Ban Daeng

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 23/02/2013 by Andrew23/02/2013

Had a ride out to Ban Daeng (Phibunrak) . The new statues of Budha being built in the temple grounds are nearing completion.

On the way Home via Na Sai one of the new Rice Combines was harvesting a second crop of rice.

These are becoming a more familiar site & will no doubt lead to less work for the Thai labourers and the inevitable consequences.

Checking out the bike & Inspecting the Rice

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 13/10/2012 by Andrew13/10/2012

Went to the farm  Today to check if the chain was OK on my bike since it was not far to go . The rice is looking good tho’ there are some areas that had not been planted – must ask Tim why.

Because everything was lookin good with the bike I carried on for another few hours. On one of the tamac sections I noticed my rear wheel had a distinct wobble to it so I thought it was buckled again. Checking the next day I saw the rear tyre had burst in one section casuing the wobble. I’ve replaced it with one of my old tyres  which seems to have corrected the wobble but the rear wheel does not seem to be perfectly round. Will go for a ride to check it out and buy yet another set of tyres. I seem to be going through tyres & tubes at an alarming rate. Also need to replace my water bottles & buy a bike bag.

Rice Planting Season

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 03/07/2012 by Andrew03/07/2012

With the onset of the rains everyone is out planting Rice. The countryside is turning green again and the humidity is starting to drop. The only down side is the Red Din roads are starting to churn up.

Rice Harvest

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 11/11/2010 by Andrew11/11/2010

The Rice crop is in 180 Sacks of Rice  of 19 Rai , Tims Parents had 40 Sacks, 5 for her Aunty, 5 for the threshing mashine leaving us with 130 sacks – and nowhere to store them at the moment .

They are still in their Husk and  isn’t hulled until just before its used so it preserves longer
