New Road From Bueng Kan to Udon Thani

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 08/05/2023 by Andrew08/05/2023

A new Road is under construction from Bueng Kan to Udon Thani which will connect to a new Friendship Bridge crossing the Mekong in Bueng Kan which is nearing completion. The road in Laos on the opposite bank has already been finished.

New Roaad

The Road will pass close to Fao Rai and then come to within 1km of Ban Dung ; crossing the Phen Road and Skirting the Rubbish tip. T

When completed it will greatly reduce the Journey time to Udon Thai & presumably reduce the Heavy Goods traffic which currently has to come through the town.  No Date for its completion has  yet been given but my understanding is that work has already been started .

Earthquake

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 21/11/2019 by Andrew02/05/2022

A shallow magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit northwestern Laos near the Thai border early; I felt it at about 6:50 as I was sat at my computer in Ban Dung although no damage was done .

The shaking could be felt more than 700 kilometers (435 miles) away in the Thai capital Bangkok.

“The shaking … was the main shock from a quake in Laos at 6:50am and was felt in northern and northeastern Thailand and Bangkok and suburbs,” said Sophon Chaila, an official at the Thai Meteorological Department.

Local Farang Death

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 03/08/2019 by Andrew02/05/2022

I was Informed a few days ago that Melvin Mills  (Known by everybody as Mel a  Former Taxi Driver from London) had a Brain Hemorrhage and has subsequently passed away. It appears he had been having mental issues  for a few days & got lost in Nong Khai on his way to Chang Mai with his Daughter . She contacted her Mother who was able to find them and he was  subsequently admitted to Hospital in Udon Thani.  It seems that Mel had suffered a reoccurence of a problem for which he had an operation many years prior in the UK . Unfortunately After 3 days in Hospital he died ; However it appears he had the foresight to contact the UK embassy to arrange for his body to be dealt with by his common law wife saving a lot of subsequent issues for the release of his body. He was Cremated Yesterday 07/08/12 there were many Thais in Attendance but only a Handful of farangs,
