Best Return Rubber or Bank

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 18/05/2014 by Andrew18/05/2014

Sometimes I am asked is rubber a good business to get into:

Scenario 1 – Bank ( Interest 5%)

7 years investing 150,000  a year at 5% interest ( Total  outlay 1,050,000 Baht )
Total Return 1,500,000
Then leave for another 5 years accumulating Interest

Total in 13 Years 1,900,000

Scenario 2 – Bank ( Interest 3%)

7 years investing 150,000  a year at 3% interest ( Total  outlay 1,050,000 Baht )
Total Return 1,370,000
Then leave for another 5 years

Total in 13 Years 1,600,000

Trees Scenario 1 ( 50 Rai , 4000 trees Rubber  75 Baht a Kilo – outlay 1,000,000 Baht)

Wait 7 Years – Start Tapping Predicted Revenue a Year – 600,000 a year
After Another 5 years – Total Revenue after inital outlay – 2,000,000

Trees Scenario 2 ( 50 Rai , 4000 trees Rubber  35 Baht a Kilo – outlay 1,000,000 Baht)

Wait 7 Years – Start Tapping Predicted Revenue a Year – 250,000 a year
After Another 5 years – Total Revenue after inital outlay – 250,000

Since current rubber prices are Running below 30 Baht a Kilo , The  conclusion would be to leave your money in the Bank . That is unless Rubber prices bounce back but even then it will still take at least 13 years to Break even instead of letting your money accumulate In Investments or a Bank

Emptying the Lake

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 28/03/2013 by Andrew15/01/2017

Tim is currently emptying the Lake ( A way to catch all the fish). Then she is going to spray it with a fungicide to kill off any bacteria before it fills again when the rains commence in a few months time.

Rubber production – Plantation 2

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 10/10/2012 by Andrew10/10/2012

The Rubber production is now well & truly under way at Plantation 2 with the majority of the trees being tapped.

It will still be a few years before the Latex  content in the Rubber is high enough to justify making it into mats. The rollers are still at our home in Ban Dung but will need shipping to the plantation some day.

Bike Ride to Sang Khom

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 06/10/2012 by Andrew10/10/2012

Went up to Sang Khom today via the short cut at Thon Na Lab. The road from Ban Nong Hoi to the 3027 has now been tarmaced all the way. A far cry from the red din road it used to be.

From Sank Kom I detoured past Eddies house and onto Plantation number one. The tagu has now been felled and replaced with palm Oil.

The Grass between the trees has also been mowed so it is looking very tidy at the moment.

Palm Oil

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 03/09/2012 by Andrew03/09/2012

We have just felled most of our eucalyptus and some of our Tagu and replaced it with Palm oil plants instead. These require a lot of water and hence should do well around the Lake where they have been planted. Only time will tell.

The Grass between the Trees has been mowed and the lake has many fish in it so the Plantation is looking good at the moment.

Plantation one

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 17/02/2012 by Andrew22/02/2012

Had a ride out today and went past plantation number one. the trees are maturing well and a canopy has formed reducing weed growth.

The trees are large enough to be cut but are being rested at the moment during the cool season

Current Rubber Yields/Prices/Returns in Thailand.

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 23/08/2011 by Andrew20/09/2011

I have been asked this question a few times lately so here are the latest figures. The Last year for which Production yields are available is 2010. These are :

North Thailand  229 Kg/rai
North East          250Kg/Rai
Central                274 kg/Rai
South                   251kg/Rai

Therfore the Average is 253 Kg Rai ( which is Down 5% on 2009)

Current Commodity price 125 Bt Kilo for Cup Lump. This is not to be confused with Farm price i.e the price the producer gets at the farm Gate which is a mistake a lot of people make when doing the calculations . I have just inquired and it is currently 70Bt /Kilo for  Cup lump – This changes on a day to day basis sometimes higher sometimes lower.  Obviously the price will be higher for rubber sheets.

Therefore currently gross returns per Rai on average is   253 * 70 = 17,710 Bt Rai/Year

Assuming you make 50% profit after labour and Fertiliser costs are taken into account this gives a Net return of Approx  8,855 Bt rai/Year

** Yields for Udonthani were 273 Kg/rai in 2010 down from 319 kg/Rai in 2009. This is probably due to weather variations.

Start of Rubber production

BANDUNGLIFE Posted on 12/08/2011 by Andrew23/08/2011

After 7 years I have given the OK to open up some of the Trees on Plantations 1 and 2. This will offset the loss of production from selling plantation 3 earlier in the year.
